Dodge has already promised to release the next-generation Charger with electric motors and a traditional internal combustion engine. The automaker will use an inline turbocharged “six” in this capacity. The classic V8 Hem will not appear in the engine range, even if Dodge decides to bring it back. According to auto experts from Indy Auto Man Indianapolis dealership, who cite a statement from one of the company’s engineers, such an engine simply will not fit in the new model’s underhood space.
Upgraded design
The STLA large platform on which the Charger is based is designed for an internal combustion engine of much smaller dimensions. In addition, even if the platform allowed it, the architecture of the engine compartment would not allow equipping the coupe with an eight-cylinder engine: too many design changes would have to be made.
New Dodge policy
The return of the V8 also does not fit into Dodge’s current policy toward the sports car. It is positioned as a muscle car of the future and, therefore, will be equipped only with engines that were not previously typical for this model, and Hemi engines are considered obsolete. At the same time, the experts suggest that changes in environmental policy announced by the administration of the future President Trump could still make the company rethink the return of large-capacity internal combustion engines.
Trims and price range
Dodge opened orders for the electric Charger Daytona this summer at a price of $ 61,950 for a version with two engines with 496 horsepower.
The most affordable modification of the electric Dodge Charger Daytona will be the R / T version, which received a power plant of 496 hp and 404 lb-ft. The top version of the Charger Daytona Scat Pack will be equipped by default with the Stage 2 package, increasing the power plant output to 670 hp and 627 lb-ft, and will cost at least $ 75,185. Such a coupe will reach 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and pass the drag quarter mile in 11.5 seconds: Dodge calls this a record figure among serial muscle cars. Its standard equipment will include Brembo brakes, adaptive shock absorbers, sportier seats, and a video recorder.
The manufacturer has already announced the prices for some optional packages. For example, the Plus Group will cost $4,995: this package, among other things, includes all-round cameras, improved interior trim, and 20-inch wheels instead of 18-inch ones. The package called Sun&Sound, with a panoramic roof and Alpine acoustics, is priced at $2,495. According to one version, in the future, the electric Charger family will be replenished with more affordable modifications without additional onboard equipment.
It has already been confirmed that a four-door version of the electric car will hit the assembly line in the first half of 2025, and closer to the end of the new year, the Charger will receive a gasoline engine. This is a three-liter V6 Hurricane, which will be available in versions with 420 and 550 horsepower.
At the same time, for connoisseurs of classic V8 Hemi, there is still a wide selection of Dodge sports cars for sale left on the secondary market.
